The second half of The Walking Dead’s season 8 will see a lot of characters giving their farewells. But did Andrew Lincoln just say that Morgan (Lennie James) might one day reunite with his Rick Grimes in the future? Currently, James is leaving the show and taking his character to Fear the Walking Dead.

However, Lincoln told EW that season 8 may not be the last fans see of Morgan on The Walking Dead. Or one could take it that Lincoln is setting the stage for a Rick crossover appearance on Fear the Walking Dead. Lincoln suggested that season 8 may not be the end of the Rick and Morgan story:

“It was a very, very sad back eight. There were lots of goodbyes, and big goodbyes as well. But there was a sort of sense, certainly, with Lennie, that it’s until we meet again. It’s always been that way with Rick and Morgan. I don’t know, there’s something in the air, that I feel that it’s not quite the end yet for Rick and Morgan.”

Of course, fans won’t know until the episodes air on whether Morgan will meet his death at the hands of one of the Saviors or a Walker. And, it is uncertain at what time frame Morgan will be appearing on Fear the Walking Dead alongside the events in The Walking Dead.

James himself spoke to TV Insider about the timeframe for his appearance on Fear the Walking Dead:

“I can safely say that, in a weird way, it is both a continuation of that battle that Morgan’s having with himself and with the people around him, and it is still part of his journey to finding some kind of inner peace—but it’s not necessarily told in a straight line. As is typical—or becoming typical—with The Walking Dead, it is not as straightforward as any explanation that I’m allowed to give you would necessarily seem.

So it is a continuation. The journey we’re gonna see Morgan on expands his character, but is still part of that battle that he’s having—with himself and the world around him and trying to figure out how best he can continue with the punishment that he’s been given, which is to keep living.”

The mid-season premiere will air on Feb. 25, 2018. The upcoming mid-season 8 premiere is set to be a landmark episode, witnessing the death of Carl Grimes after revealing his walker bite to Rick and Michonne. Fear the Walking Dead starts after The Walking Dead finishes on April 15, 2018.

Based on the comic book series written by Robert Kirkman, this gritty drama portrays life in the weeks and months following a zombie apocalypse. Led by police officer Rick Grimes, his family and a group of other survivors find themselves constantly on the move in search of a safe and secure home. But the pressure each day to stay alive sends many in the group to the deepest depths of human cruelty, and Rick discovers that the overwhelming fear of the survivors can be more deadly than the zombies walking among them.
